Computer Science Career – Where It’s Cool to be a Computer Geek!

The tide has turned and the lines have all but faded. These are the days when all the Geeks are cool, and even the burnouts or jocks are actually computer geeks themselves. In fact many will go on to pursue a Computer Science Career and be not only cool, but probably wealthy as well.

So, how did this shift happen? I guess no matter who we blame, no matter how rich Bill Gates is, and no matter how much we snicker when those Star Trek Conventions come around, we can blame the shift of Computer Science into the main stream, on the fact that computers are everywhere.

Computer Systems are everywhere, from our home, to our jobs, to the grocery store. Even the machines at the Laundromats are computer driven these days.

Everything is changing around us, and it’s not going to stop, we’ve just begun to touch the surface. Therefore, because of this, Computer Science Careers are ripe for the picking.

If you get excited about anything futuristic, if you love Sci-Fi movies, or if you knew how to set up a web page before high school then it’s probably a great idea for you to step into that field.

So what the heck does a Computer Science Career consist of?

Now comes the great part. There are many facets to computer science to choose from. It’s not just programming, or being the IT guy at a company running from desk to desk to fix everyone’s computer when it breaks. Although, that’s actually not a bad job itself.

Here’s a run down of the options that you’ll have when choosing a career in computer science:

  • Computer Programming
  • Writing Codes
  • Web Design
  • Web Graphic Artist
  • Video Game Creator
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Robotics, and tons more.

Now, are you ready for the benefits of going after a computer science career? Well for starters there’s the fact that positions that require technical computer knowledge pay much more than those in non-tech fields.

Another fact is that the average wages in 7 out of the 12 technology-oriented careers were more than twice the average for all occupations.

One last great fact, having to do with salary, is that most companies these days offer signing bonuses of $8,000 to $10,000 in some cases.

So there you go. Those are some positive facts to consider if working with computers and computer systems is what will motivate you to want to jump out of bed in the morning.

Getting to that point of course is going to mean that you’ll have to get some specialized knowledge which means going to school. That’s work, and that’s a big step for a lot of people, especially those who might have to work for a paycheck now, and are pressed for time. But take this fact into consideration if earning money is something that you consider important:

“College grads earn an average of 77% more than a high school grad.”

Now that’s a huge difference, I think you would agree. Why not put yourself in front of a wave and ride it instead of missing the wave altogether as so many people in our society do.

A Computer Science Career may not be for everyone, but if it’s something that you’ve considered I hope that you’ll have a better understanding of what kind of rewards you can expect if that’s something you wish to pursue.
